THE GAL BEHIND THE SHELL

Her Story
I’m Lauren—the one-woman show behind Sad Gal Collective.
Texas born and raised, I’ve always moved to the beat of my own drum. I grew up dabbling in anything creative I could find, which eventually led me to pursue a BFA in Graphic Design. Since then, I’ve built a career as a designer and work full-time as an Art Director.
Sad Gal Collective was born at the tail end of Covid, after getting laid off from a design role. I had already been running a small Etsy shop on the side—making wearable art, mostly jewelry—and working with polymer clay. That creative spark kept me grounded through a lot of transition.
The very first oyster sculpture was made during a time when being a woman felt especially heavy. Sad Gal Collective emerged from that weight—like something pulled from deep waters.
Sad Gal Co. continues to evolve as I do. At its core, it’s a space for soft power and sculpted resilience. Every oyster I create reflects something deeper: the hard outer shell we wear to survive, and the sacred, magical center we protect inside.
This is armor. This is transformation. This is what I made from the pressure—much like the pearl.
This is becoming.
